History and Presence of Town Most
Most used to be a rich town in Medieval Ages with municipal rights granted by Přemysl Otakar II., Jan Lucemburský and Charles IV. At the end of the 19th century industry, mainly coal mining was developing in the area. After the World War Two the town went into decline and only in 1950´s did renovation start. First there was the construction of first modern, for that time, housing estates. After 1964 in a modern, new age, the most moving history of the town was written when the complete old part of Most was abandoned. A thick coal seam of good quality brown coal was the reason for the abandonment, so irreplaceable historical sights, churches, fortresses, castles, vicarages and parks together with the adjacent villages disappeared from the map. The relocation of the entire Dean Church of the Assumption of the Virgin and of some sights to the surrounding villages and the new part of the town was a unique event.
The town lies between two dominant natural formations which increase its tourism attraction. On one side volcanic hills of the České Středohoří with their beautiful nature slopes, on the other side the Krušné hory mountains with their colourful opportunities for recreational activities and sport in both winter and summer months.
Our town, thanks to its moving history, offers you what you can rarely find anywhere else. In a quite small area you can visit not only historical places of interest and sights but also a motor racing circuit, a horse racecourse, a swimming pool, a golf course, an airport and attractive sport areas.
